Clube Rio, Macau KTV: Before Anyone Picks the First Song

The remote sits in the middle of the table and nobody has picked it up. Three people have just sat down in a private room on the 3rd floor of Hotel Rio, the door behind them has closed, and the loudest thing in the room is ice going into glasses.

Okochi is on a work trip to Macau. Two colleagues are with him, the work finished in the early evening, and the room tonight was booked through this site. All three came to sing. So far none of them has said a word about what to put on first.

The easy part is already over

By the time that door closes, the awkward half of a night out in a city you do not live in has been dealt with. Book through this site and a free private car, never shared, collects you from where you are staying and drops you at the front of Hotel Rio. Clube Rio is on the 3rd floor. A consultation before booking costs nothing, so headcount and hour are all you need to send ahead; on the night you give a name and keep walking.

What the room does while it is still quiet

The room is darker and calmer than a corridor prepares you for. A crystal chandelier hangs in the middle. The wall you face is gold marble with light behind it. The side walls are deep green stone in gold frames, the sofas are navy velvet and run around three sides, and the floor is herringbone wood that gives every footstep back to you.

Nobody has decided where to sit yet. Glasses go down on the low black tables and ice goes in. The Free-flow plan (drinks + spa) covers Hennessy VSOP and the rest of the list, so nothing is counted by the glass. For these few minutes the only sounds in the room are three voices and ice moving in a glass.

High in the corners there are speakers, and nothing is coming out of them. A glass goes down on the marble, and the small click of it carries all the way to the far end of the sofas before anybody says another word.

Someone sits down beside you

The door opens once more and a companion comes in. She sits down next to the group, keeps the glasses moving, and sings once the room has warmed up. This is Clube Rio’s companion service. Nobody has to sing well. One of the two colleagues managed two songs all night and still had the best evening of the three.

The moment the first song starts

The remote finally moves, a number goes in, and the intro comes up. The same room that had been carrying one small click from end to end is full in a single beat. Everyone laughs, the microphone gets pushed at somebody who does not want it, and for the rest of the night the first song never comes up again.

What follows the singing

After the singing and the drinking, the night carries on to a spa massage in the same building. The spa time is counted from when the therapist begins; anything before that is your own, within opening hours.

What people ask before they come

Is the room really private for a group of three?

Yes. Every room at Clube Rio is fully private, with the sound system the place is built around, and once the door closes the room belongs to your group for the night. Types and sizes are on the rooms page. Tell us the headcount when you message and the room is matched to it.

How do I choose between the lines and the plans?

There are three lines, Vietnamese-style Model, Tang-style Standard and Tang-style Model, and two plans on each: WALK IN (spa only) and Free-flow (drinks + spa). Prices follow the venue’s actual menu and may vary by item, duration and time of day, with the current menu confirmed when you book, so read them on the prices page and ask first if you are torn.

How late can we stay?

The doors are open 19:00 to 04:00 daily. There are no guest rooms or nap rooms, so when you leave the room in the small hours, going back to your hotel is the last step of the night, and the private car takes you there too. Guests must be 18 or over.

Can I enjoy it if I am not much of a singer?

Easily. You can spend the companion’s songs on the glass and the conversation, and the second half of the night resting in the spa. A night with two songs in it is an ordinary night here. The order of the evening is set out on the KTV guide.

The corridor outside the door stays exactly where it was the whole time. Near dawn you walk back along that polished stone, this time towards the car.
